This giclee print is produced on 310gsm archival quality Somerset paper and is a high quality copy of a mono print produced on an A3 silkscreen in my home studio.
The vibrant design was inspired by a trip to Gavrinis which is a small uninhabited island in the Gulf of Morbihan off the Southern coast of Brittany in France. The island contains a pyramid-shaped stone burial chamber and it's interior walls are covered with neolithic artwork. The structure is a tumulus (earth mound) covering a cairn (stone mound) covering a dolmen (stone burial chamber), which was built around 3500BC and has a diameter of 164ft (50m). To reach the burial chamber visitors must walk down a narrow 46ft (14m)-long passage the walls of which are decorated with carved patterns and symbols. At Winter Solstice, the sun shines down the passage and hits the back wall.
The picture is complimented by a black mount with white core and a light wood frame with plexiglass. The quality frame of the frame is reflected in the price.
The print can also be supplied unframed in a presentation packet at a price of £35.
It was the experience of sailing to the island of Gavrinis in France on a beautiful sunny day with the marvellous earth and sea smells creating a heady aroma as we arrived, that inspired this mono print.
