Item details

Hand-crafted from an original Irish coin, this beautiful pendant highlights the original design which would have mostly gone un-noticed by users back in the days when it was legal tender. I have pierced out the coin using a very fine jewellers saw, filing and sanding to give a smooth finish and then carefully polishing. Finally the item is finished with a special lacquer in order to prevent further oxidation and the possibility of skin discolouration. The coin is 27mm in diameter. The pendant can also be made into a keyring, as shown - please contact me if you would prefer this option.

My mother-in-law is from Northern Ireland and she had an old charm bracelet which included some small Irish coins with a Hare design. I was interested in the coins and searched for them on the internet, where I found examples from around the world of jewellery crafted from everyday items, such as coins. I was given the charm bracelet and made my first pendant from one of the Hare coins - you can see this amongst my other items. Since then I have been acquiring interesting coins from various sources and continuing the theme.
