Pretty, semi precious gemstone Nipomo Agate cabochon from Nipomo, California, also sometimes referred to as Marcasite Agate
Golden metallic Marcasite and Pyrite inclusions. This gemstone material is quite rare as the mine is now closed
Nipomo Agate collecting areas have been closed for more than 40 years and old sources are getting scarce.
Agate is a member of the chalcedony family, or a micro-crystalline quartz, and it has a hardness of about 7 on the Moh's scale.
The name is derived from its occurrence at the Achates River in southwestern Sicily. Marcasite and Pyrite are both forms of iron sulphide. Marcasite and Pyrite can form in Agate during volcanic activity.
Metaphysical properties: In general Agates are said to be stabilising and strengthening. They improve memory and increase energy.
