Item details

A shallow bowl made from oak, with the outside shape of a hexagon. The oak developed some serious cracks during drying, so I decided to accentuate them by filling them with a mixture of brass powder and epoxy resin, which now gives the impression of golden streaks running through the wood. Finished with 2 coats of danish oil and therefore safe for food, and polished to a soft sheen.
This bowl is about 2 inches high and 5 inches in diameter.

I do make quite a lot of normal round bowls, for everyday purposes. So every now and then I think how I can make something a little different. Here's the result. This piece of wood would have gone into the fireplace, if it wasn't for me. Obviously there are loads of variations possible, but somehow the heaxgon shape does appeal the most, with its inherent triple symmetry.
