This brooch has been hand crafted by myself and no two will ever be the same.

The base is formed from polymer clay which is then painted and varnished. The brooch is then finished using thread and glass beads and a brooch clasp attached to the back. If more than one is available there may be a slight variation to the one photographed.

The brooch measures approximately 4x5.5 cms. I have sincerely enjoyed making these brooches which I hope shows!

I have always had a fascination for birds and towards the end of last year saw an 18th century gilt leather screen featuring them. I was amazed at how the colours jumped from the dark background and how beautiful it would have looked by candlelight. The birds on the screen were exotic but I liked the idea of our native birds being equally beautiful and so I created the blackbird. From here my creations have morphed to cats and elephants featuring the same play on light using gold to imitate the gilt effect
