This colourful small acrylic painting on canvas features a group portrait painting of young Italian friends celebrating over a meal.

20 x 20 cms (8 x 8 ins approx).

I used acrylic paints on a box canvas with deep sides for this restaurant painting. The sides are painted black and a hanging loop on the back means it's ready to hang on your wall the minute you receive it without framing. It would also look great on a niche or shelf. You can add a frame if you wish.

Inspiration for this painting came during a visit to Bologna, Italy, which has the oldest existing university in the world so the place is full of exhilarating student-life. Among its many other attractions there are excellent restaurants. Let's face it, if you can't find good food in Italy .... there's something wrong with you! On this particular day a crowd of students were celebrating graduation. The place was buzzing with life and excitement. I hope from the use of colour and brushwork to have conveyed some of the tremendous atmosphere. I took photos and worked on the painting in my studio when I got back.
