This wallhanging was created by hand-carding a small selection of pre-dyed Merino wools to create a palette of mixed reds, which were then lightly worked into a 'pre-felt'. The Bird motif was cut from this pre-felt, applied to a background of Cheviot and Merino wools, and then wet-felted to create the wallhanging. The Bird has been lightly defined with embroidery- silk.

The Wallhanging measures 24cm x 30cm. The edges were neatened by folding during the wet-felting process, but are otherwise uncut, giving a slightly uneven effect.

The finished wallhanging has an interface backing on the reverse, along with a name / date label, and a metal D-ring for hanging.

Your wallhanging will be wrapped in acid-free tissue for transit, and will be posted by First Class Royal Mail within 3 days of clearance of payment. Please message me if you require a quote for a Tracked postal service.

In 2005 I visited an exhibition entitled "In Palaces & Tents: The Islamic World from China to Europe" at The Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, Russia. Whilst there, I sketched several designs which caught my eye including this one: a bird cast into a 8th-9th century bronze ewer from Iraq. I carried this design around in my notebook for a further 8 years before finally translating it into the wallhanging you see here.
