Item details

Using the wool fleece like paint on a brush, I lay small 'teases' of fleece out like brush strokes, on silk rather than canvas. Building up the layers, damping them down to see how the colour is forming, until I am happy that the image is present enough for felting. Felted flat, to retain the integrity of the image, until the piece is no longer a loose collection of fibers, but rather a reproduction of the image I am seeing in my head.
Sometimes I work from actual photographs, or, as in this case, from the accumulated pictures taken by eye and by camera.

This piece has had some stitching added and a toning button used to create a 'sun' focus.

Mounted on padded board to allow the felt to stand proud and then finished with a medium dark wood box frame which sets of the colours beautifully.

Size - 38 x 32.5 cms approx

The photo of the piece, before it is mounted, is probably the truest to the image created as there is no glass to interfere.

Sunsets are very much a feature of living on the west coast of Scotland. Filling the sky with light, they often come through to influence my work. When 'painting' with fleece, I find myself constantly drawn back to the colours delivered by this natural light show.
