I have made a little sailing ship or yatch from driftwood and recycled aluminium. The aluminium used to be the sides to a caravan that my parents had in their garden for my children to play in. As they are grown up now, the caravan was eventually broken up but my Dad decided to keep the sheets of metal, because "they might come in useful one day"
The boat is 8" long and has been mounted on a piece of driftwood plywood, the whole item is just 9" tall. The driftwood was picked up on a beach in Cornwall last year.
This is a rustic and simple item, but would look good in a coastal or seaside cottage, beach hut or would please anyone with an interest of the sea.
I have used copper wire as the mainsheet and to secure the sail to the mast, all recycled materials. One side of the sail is matt whilst the other side is more shiny.
This is one of a series of boats that I have made, some of them have Ordnance Survey maps for sails.
