Four small handmade ceramic stones with the words Best Mum, Love, Best friend and Hug inscribed into them.

These make a lovely gift for your Mum on Mother's day or for her birthday, Christmas, Easter, as a Mother of the bride gift, a new Mum from a new Dad . . . . . . . . or just as an 'I love you' at anytime present.

They are made from a buff stoneware clay, textured and then inscribed before being bisque fired. I then paint them with a black matt glaze in order to highlight the inscription and use a shiny glaze on the top right corner. They are glaze fired to 1220C.

To keep in your pocket or purse or put somewhere special - for someone special - too show that you care.

Approximately: 5.0 to 6.0cm (2 to 2 1/2 inches) long, 2.5cm (1 inch) high.

I began making Word Stones when my youngest daughter started secondary (high) school. I wanted to give her a little extra strength and encouragement, so I made her a 'hug' to keep in her pocket. I got the idea from J.M. Barrie's novel Peter Pan, when Wendy gave Peter a 'kiss' - a thimble.
