Red squirrel brooch in cold-cast pewter or bronze showing squirrel leaping across a gleaming sun.
I sculpted this relief Red squirrel from modelling wax, and this original was then moulded. I reproduce them in cold-cast bronze or pewter (metal and resin) in my coal shed at home.
It is quite a chunky design and the little squirrel is leaping across the sun with a nut in his mouth. On the back is a silver-plated or a bronzed brooch pin.
The brooch is sculpted, cast, polished, buffed, waxed, finished and boxed by me; sculptor Kirsty Armstrong.
The finished brooch is presented in a hand decorated black and lilac gift box and there is an information card included.
I've been very involved with Red squirrel conservation for a number of years. Having been up close to lots of red squirrels, and been lucky enough to help them return to my part of the world, I had the perfect subject matter for another brooch!
I also supply squirrel conservation groups with these, so money is generated for Red squirrel conservation projects.
