Handmade, needle-felted Swaledale ewe made from the white wool of a Swaledale fleece and the black wool of a Black Welsh Mountain sheep. The beaded eyes give a life-like glint. This sheep is designed to be looking at her lamb which is also made from Swaledale and Black Welsh Mountain fleece. Swaledale lambs don't have the distinctive white muzzle or white markings around their eyes when they are very young.
The ewes are about 16 cm from nose to tail x 11 cm high and the lambs are about 10.5 cm x 8.5 cm. The sheep come with a label giving some information about them. They are smit marked - which is the identifying mark per farm, as explained on the label. These sheep are not toys and are not suitable for young children.
I spent many years helping on a Lake District hill farm. During that time I worked with a variety of sheep and suckler cows. Our Swaledale ewes were crossed with Teeswater tups to produce Masham sheep and also crossed with Blue Faced Leicester tups to produce Mules. By working closely with the sheep I gained a good understanding of their character and features, which I've used to create these handmade sheep.
