Vintage 1960's eau de nil silk fabric printed with a dusky pink river design and dusky blue butterflies. The same fabric is used for the reverse of the cushion. NB! Due to the age of the fabric there are some marks on both sides of the cushion. They are mainly unoticeable, (the most obvious is pictured, see last image) but I think this is all part of the interesting history of the cloth!
100% silk cover
Measures 30cm x 30cm.
Has a duck feather filler and non-removebale cover.
Spot clean only.
This unique cushion has been made from a piece of cloth taken from a rare and genuine japanese kimono worn by a woman dating from the 1960's. The kimono has been carefully unpicked and I have chosen particular details in the cloth and cropped the fabric accordingly to look good as a cushion. The fabric originates from the Niigata region in Japan which has been a main producer of kimono silk for over one hundred years.
I hope you can display and enjoy this cushion as if a beautiful work of art or sculpture. I think this is a wonderful way of preserving such an ancient and revered craft.
Need a pair of cushions? There's just enough fabric for one more cushion. Please contact me for details.
I love kimonos and am fascinated by the fact that a whole kimono is constructed from just one roll of fabric called a silk bolt or 'tanmono'. It is an exact length and width and nothing gets wasted. This in turn denotes the finished size of my cushions!
