This work is a photograph of a statue in the garden of Charleston farmhouse - lived in by Vanessa Bell from 1916 and frequented by her sister, the writer Virginia Woolf and many important visitors connected to the Bloomsbury Group, including T. S. Eliot, E. M. Forster, Roger Fry and Lytton Strachey. Much of the house was decorated by members of the Bllomsbury groups with murals and patterns. The garden was also decorated and adorned - this statue is one of many classical statues.
