The kite shaped drops of surfite are a well matched pair with vertical stripes in subtle shades of green and blue. The coloured bands are opaque but there are a number of clear ones which let light pass through the earring, I've done my best to show this in the photos.The earrings measure approx 55mm top of hook to bottom and 20mm across, they are a large earring but surfite is lightweight. Comes gift boxed.\r\nSo what's surfite? It is many upon layer of cured resin that builds up during the 'glassing' step of custom surfboard manufacture (glassing is when the foam inner is covered in more durable resin). This build up is normally considered a waste material and thrown away but jewellers have started using it as a colourful and sustainable alternative to natural gems so these earrings would make a great gift for the surfer in your life or for someone keen on eco alternatives. I cut and polish the surfite myself and this particular batch of surfite came from a workshop in California (I don't know which one though).
