The green tones are accentuated with a rose cut serpentine which provides a little sparkle, the earrings have been finished with simple hooks (also sterling silver). Most of the colours are opaque but a few are translucent and allow light to shine through, the patterns are a mirror matched pair. The earrings measure 56mm from the top of the hook to the bottom of the earring by 16mm across. Perfect gift for anyone who loves the unusual or surfing.\r\nSurfite is cured resin waste that builds up as surfboards are being made, this was a very splattery build up with lots of drips which caused the pattern. The resin build up is normally considered a waste material but jewellers have started recycling it into colourful jewellery. I cut this material myself and this particular piece came from a workshop in Puerto Rico. This surfite has tiny air bubbles in it which show as dimples on the surface of the material, this is a reflection of the fact it is a waste material so they didn't bother bursting the bubbles as the material formed.
