I combined three different drawings to create a sampler piece that shows off different techniques including thread painting and stumpwork (raised stitches).  \n\nFor the bird I used \"long and short\" stitch in blended colours to paint his head and body, and padded satin stitch to add depth to his wings.  The red flowers include curved bullion knots with pistil stitches (elongated french knots), and the tassel flowers are a modern interpretaion of turkey stitch.  \n\nI have tightly secured the fabric into the hoop (brand Elbesee) using traditional gathering and lacing.
