The surfite drops are a mirror matched pair with vertical stripes in baby blue and white with a red one for contrast, most of the bands are opaque but they are separated by clear resin which does funny things to how light passes through the earrings (they have open backs to the settings). \r\nThe earrings measure approx 45mm top of hook to bottom and 18mm across. Comes gift boxed.\r\nSo what's surfite? It is many upon layer of cured resin that builds up during the 'glassing' step of custom surfboard manufacture (glassing is when the foam inner is covered in more durable resin). This build up is normally considered a waste material and thrown away but jewellers have started using it as a colourful and sustainable alternative to natural gems so these earrings would make a great gift for the surfer in your life or for someone keen on eco alternatives. I cut and polish the surfite myself and this particular batch of surfite came from a workshop in California (I don't know which one though).
