The butterfly edge is raised and the bowl slopes gently towards the opposite edge.   \r\n\r\n\r\nThe butterfly has been a symbol of transformation, hope and faith for thousands of years. The butterfly is also a symbol of rebirth, since it goes through so many life cycles -- from larva to caterpillar to chrysalis and finally to a beautiful, flying butterfly.\r\n\r\nThis handcrafted ceramic dish has been created from white earthenware clay using the slab-work method.  A butterfly has been secured with slip before shaping with sculpting tools and placed in a mould. Once dried it has been bisque fired to 1000C and hand-painted with three coats of a unique shaded aqua glaze has been applied to the bowl and coral pink has been applied to the butterfly.  After glazing it has had a second firing in the kiln to 1080C.\r\n\r\nApproximate size:    17cm diameter ..
