Full description

For me, the colours of gold, lapis lazuli and turquoise conjure Ancient Egypt and this unique mixed media artwork captures those mystical elements.

This box frame has been built around the sacred scarab beetle (kheper) which the Egyptians believed represented the entire life cycle - birth, life, death and resurrection. The scarab-headed god, Khepri was the god of the rising sun. Just as the scarab rolled its ball of dung, so Khepri rolled the sun into the sky, being reborn every morning.

I have used the colours of those precious gems for both the scarab god and the dragonfly using mainly upcycled beads and jewellery pieces. The blazing desert sun was a substantial but rather dull grey pendant, so I covered it with gold metal flakes. The metal rectangle embossed with the sphinx and pyramid scene was originally a bookmark. The fallen stonework is made from mosaic tile pieces and sandpaper forms the dunes.

For any lover of Ancient Egypt and the mysteries of the desert this would make a very special gift. The black box frame is 32 cm square and it can be wall hung or it can stand on a shelf.

UK postage is included in the price.
