Jeff Soan Profile
In 1985 I encountered a wobbly rat at a friend's house. It was a South American folk toy and I was captivated by it's movement. My friend was at the London College of Furniture and told me there was a City and Guilds Toymaking course.there. Desperate for a change from the self employed building work I had been doing for the previous 17 years I enrolled, eventually becoming a qualified toymaker and started a business making and selling toys at Greenwich Craft market.
With my background in Art ( Goldsmiths College) my work developed away from traditional toys and became more sculptural.so that they are seen now more as artworks and appear in galleries all over the country..
I am a member of THE BRITISH TOYMAKERS GUILD and have been Toymaker of the Year twice and have been awarded many other prizes.
Recently I have become very weary of most galleries sale or return policies and the high commissions and have been attending more Craft Shows and really enjoying the customer contact and cash flow!
I have never sold online before as my work is very tactile and difficult to appreciate fully in photos so maybe try my www.wobblywood.co.uk for some videos of the work in action
