Sarah Louise Dix Profile
As a child Sarah watched and helped her mother make clothes for herself and her older sister. This was then that Sarah realised that she had a latent skill when working with fabrics. She went on to do her own dressmaking and took her inspiration from items of original vintage clothing, learning to make her own shirts, trousers and skirts.
Realising her love of clothing and design was going to be a lifelong interest, Sarah went on to study fashion design. Whilst studying, Sarah made numerous research trips to London, continuing to sate her inquisitive nature for seeking out design inspiration and visiting fabric houses. Continuing to surround herself in a creative environment, Sarah gained a PR executive role in the fashion PR company, Jean Bennet PR, in the late 1980’s. The company’s accounts included Vivienne Westwood, who has since been and continues to be a great influence in her work, Pam Hogg and Whitaker Malem.
Following a move to London, working in related businesses and having a child, Sarah wanted a change in direction, moving away from on office based career back to a creative environment. She made a decision, and embarked on a part time upholstery course. After learning the traditional methods during the next four years she flourished and began producing unique one off pieces.
Sarah is now selling her own garment inspired upholstery on line through Sarah Louise Dix Couture Upholstery based in South East London. Two of her new pieces are currently on show in the bespoke menswear shop Blaqua of Newburg Street. W1.
