James Green Profile

Hello there.

I'm a printmaker and a musician. I live in Sheffield, UK. I studied fine art (photography) at university, ploughed my way through various dead-end jobs before realising that print-making and music-making is where I'm happiest.

I've been producing printed artwork for about 6 years now. I'm very drawn to the graphic power of it, and also the slightly unpredictable results you sometimes get. It feels a little as if the medium is helping me along. How nice.

I work mainly with lino, but also do etching prints on copper and perspex. I am inspired by everyday things, the landscape, the ordinarily absurd, and also artists such as Francisco Goya, Mick Turner, Stanley Spencer and Egon Schiele.

In 2006 my etching 'Paris Buggy' was shortlisted for the 6th International Small Print Competition. I was also commissioned in 2008 by Paul Smith Menswear to design two images for a range of t-shirts for sale in their Japanese stores.

My other passion is music. I have been doing this for about 10 years. I have a group called 'The Big Eyes Family Players'. We play something that could possibly be described as somewhere between classical music, folk music and pop music. It keeps me busy, and I have been fortunate to have worked with a great many talented people. If you are curious about my music you can find out more at www.big-eyes.co.uk or www.myspace.com/bigeyesmusic

I hope you'll like my artwork here. if you have any questions, please ask!

Finally, I have a facebook page and a blog a the following pages. Please come and become a fan/follow if you like what I do!
