Judith Williamson Profile
I am a disabled Designer Maker based in Warwickshire.
I have Multiple Sclerosis BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE ME!!!
I taught Art and Design for 18 years but had to give up teaching due to ill health.
I originally trained as a Fashion & Textile Designer in the late 1980's.
I began working with recycled materials as a way to improve my mental health after losing my career.
I still needed to be creative and have an outlet for my ideas.
I have become self employed through "permitted earnings" and this has enabled me to sell my work and provide some workshops.
I love using found materials and ephemera and the challenge of creating something new.
My main material is tinplate always taken from discarded and unwanted sweet, biscuit and storage tins.
The surface colour and pattern play an important role within each piece made and can often dictate how the tin is utilised.
Many themes inspire me from nature to industrial landscapes and other man- made forms.
My work includes unique small pieces of jewellery , mirror frames, wall hangings and highly original decorative panels.
