I decoupaged my kokeshi onto handmade a polymer clay cabochon and then painted it a beautiful shiny turquoise colour. Many layers of varnish have been applied for protection, adding a beautiful finishing touch. This beautiful brown antique suitcase is decorated with real vintage postage stamps from around the world : Congo, Pakistan, Austria, Nigeria, Tanzania and Sweden just to name a few! I also incorporated an old postcard dating back to the early 20th century. Each stamp has been placed in order to compliment the colour and design of the next one, creating a harmonious and exclusive piece. The stamps have been treated with several coats of special protective varnish/lacquer, a complicated procedure but very effective: you can travel around the world even on rainy days without having to worry about the stamps peeling off!
