'Rose to the Occasion' collaged trinket box

110 x 110mm square, 60mm deep wooden trinket box, backed in rose designs which caught my eye from a paper bag, layered with handmade paper, and embellished with a conglomeration of collected and collaged delights -a mad March hare brooch, a pointing finger, a key to who-knows-where, gems, beads, buttons, red lace, and a gumball charm gun hung with a CND pendant -quite contrary.

A box every bit as precious as the treasures one would keep within.

The hare, the roses and the striped limbs, give a nod to 'Alice's Adventures...', and the overall effect is the sweet and sinister contrast I continually revisit.

Box is decorated inside and out. The lid lifts and lowers on tiny brass-effect hinges and fixes shut with a magnetic clasp.

As all my pieces are one-offs, and therefore unreplaceable, all purchases will be mailed first class recorded delivery, requiring a signature to ensure safe arrival.

All items will be carefully packaged to protect their fragile nature.

'Shake Your Tail Feather' mixed media collage

Fun collaged wall/door hanging.

Background is heavy duty card, hexagonal in shape, printed with a cute retro bird design

(actually salvaged from the Christmas decorations of a high street store, a couple of years ago, now recycled and embelished in a strangelord fashion!)

Collage hangs from fine ribbons, and features ribbon tassels at the bottom, in lovely red and blue.

Beads, buttons, bows, gems and a hot pink whistle (like a birdy's song!) are all neatly arranged and glued into place, along with Geri Spice's platform boot (I kid you not!)

Collage is double sided, featuring a more simple design of beads on the reverse (see images).

Collage measures 250mm wide x 213mm high, total height including ribbons is 250mm.

As all my pieces are one offs, and therefore unreplaceable, all items will be mailed first class recorded delivery, requiring a signature to ensure safe arrival.

All purchases will be carefully packaged to protect their fragile nature.

'Winter Blues' collaged trinket box

100 x 110 x 60mm approx. wooden trinket box, backed in icy blue, metallic-flecked handmade paper, and decorated with a plethora of pretty buttons, beads, gems, charms and found objects -including a a shattered piece of pottery I found where a row of terraced houses had been destroyed, a quirky brooch and a lost jigsaw piece.

I love to play with textures. The woodgrain of the box shows through the tissue-thin paper, silver ink adds frosting to a cut corrugated cardboard shape that adds interest to the lid. Graph paper isn't just for school -it's the perfect blue to complement. Colouring book sugar paper is for big kids too -I cut out snowflakes to match the wintery theme, and the six-pointed shapes perfectly reflect box's hexagonal form.

The main colours are pale, turquoisy blues, metallics, accents of black and the soft brown of corrugated cardboard.

This box is perfect to keep on a bedside table to hold safe rings or other regularly worn jewellery, or the deepest darkest secrets of ice maidens and snow queens.

As all my pieces are one-offs, and therefore unreplaceable, all purchases will be mailed first class recorded delivery, requiring a signature to ensure safe arrival.

All items will be carefully packaged to protect their fragile nature.

'The Happiest Drink in the World...' box collage

Box collage/assemblage 200 x 200mm.

Collage is created on and within a recycled old cosmetics box in metallic green, decorated with elements of Babycham packaging (the happiest drink in the world!) and handmade paper, embellished with ribbons and diamante.

Inside is a cute, kitsch, and slightly sinister diorama consisiting of charms, cake decorations, beads, buttons, sequins, gems, cookie fortunes and an absinthe matchbox, on a pretty, metallic-flecked hand made paper background. What it all means is open to interpretation, in a dream-like manner.

I love the idea of boxes, and how they can equally conceal delights or horrors inside.

Main colours are green and lilac.

Pasted inside the box lid is a shabby-chic, wrinkled print of butterflies (one of my favourtite themes) and blossom -oriental in feel to tie in with the cookie fortunes.

As all my pieces are one-offs, and therefore unreplaceable, all purchases will be mailed first class recorded delivery, requiring a signature to ensure safe arrival.

All items will be carefully packaged to protect their fragile nature.

'Good Idea' mixed media collage

130mm x 180mm collage/assemblage on heavy duty card with retro floral print.

Collage hangs from an antiqued gold-effect chain and features various charms and nick-nacks including musical notes, leaves, a tiny key, buttons, beads, bones (plastic of course!), a broken earring, a cute pair of play scissors, a jumping frog and a Disneyland dollar! All lovingly arranged and hung or glued into place.

The title comes from the bead printed with the word 'idea', and all together the seemingly unrelated objects conjure up all kinds of fantastical imaginings (or so I think!)

The main colours are greens, brown, cream and gold.

The collage is really light and would be perfect as a door or wall hanging.

'Be of good note, and note this well!' mixed media collage

170 x 150mm collage/assemblage on 15mm thick heavy board.

Out walking in town one day, a street preacher (one might even say he was manic), gave me an A4 printed sheet of strange sermon of some sort, in bold red text. Interested enough, I thought "I'll keep that. Maybe I can use it one day"

And I did. In this collage. It matched nicely with some retro floral printed paper I'd salvaged, when accented with red paint, and various bits 'n' bobs from my collections -a pinky-purple rose charm, a red smiley, a bobbin button, musical notes and a purple serpent. Sinister!

All objects are lovingly arranged, and stuck neatly into place.

This quirky little piece would definitely be a talking point, if only to work out what the heck it's all about (I'm not sure myself. It just looked pretty!)

'Happily Never After' box collage

Box collage/assemblage (I'm a big fan of Joseph Cornell!) on the theme of Little Red Riding Hood.

Red Riding Hood diorama constructed within a salvaged card/heavy paper box, using image acquired from a newspaper article.

Scene is embelished with Christmas cake ornaments, jewels, beads, and text spelling out 'Happily Never After' -in reference to the macabre nature of the popular fairy tale.

Box is approx 108mm x 198mm and is in two parts ( a lid an a bottom)

The whole box is decorated. The lid is backed in paper with a cherries design, painted over for a faded feel, and trimmed with ribbon and trinkets.

The inner lid features a spooky image of a craggy mountain in silhouette.

200 x 610mm collage/assemblage on painted hardboard, partially backed with kawaii, starry gift wrap, which I just loved and simply had to use somehow!

Decal letters spelling out a mirror image of 'fed up', are contrasted with a very much not fed-up array of kitsch cutesy goodies to match the rainbow colours of the happy stars. An oversized button-badge, smileys, gumball charms, a whistle, buttons, beads, bows and a tiny toy lorry all feature.

This fun piece is mounted to be wall hung.

'Kunst Kasten' collaged trinket box

110mm x 80mm x 45mm approx. collaged wooden trinket box.

This miniature delight was inspired by a flyer I picked up on a trip to Paris -where I simply had to forage for collage-able goodies, and by a set of Spanish playing cards from my hoilday last Summer. So in this sense it's almost like a voyage around Europe!

'Kunst' means art in German in case you didn't know. 'Kunst gefällt mir prima' is one of the few phrases I remember from German at school (I think that's right!). I snipped the text from said flyer, as well as the freaky radiating eyeball.

They perfectly complemented the playing card, with it's mystic connotations, and I matched the rest of the gathered treasures to these -which include buttons, a crab cracker prize, gingham bow, a section of lego, a fan and an anchor charms, and gems galore.

Parts of the box are backed in prettily simple brown wrapping paper stamped with stars.

The lid opens and closes on little brass hinges, and secures shut with a tiny brass clasp.

This cute and quirky 'kasten' (that's a box) is sure to make you smile, and would add interest to a dressing table or mantle piece.

One day Lucy cat ate a butterfly. So I did this painting to commemorate my amusement and disgust at the event.

410 x 410mm mixed media piece, painted and collaged onto stretched gingham fabric, ready wired to be wall hung

The raised texture of the gingham can be seen through the paint, giving an interesting effect.

Lucy is surrounded by collaged butterflies and gems to add sparkle to this cutesy, kitschy piece.

Kitschy collage features Hello Kitty -everyone's favourite puss, courtesy of a recycled piece of handbag!

Also features cookie fortunes ("your present plans are going to succeed", and "your ability for accomplishment will follow with success" -insprational!) , a tiny smirnoff bottle, a scooter button, beads, a pretty shell comb and all the threes from a mini deck of cards -it's the magic number, don't you know?!

Everything is neatly glued into place.

Collage is mounted to be wall hung.

200 x 155mm approx. collage/assemblage.

A background of a photoshopped image of the Catacombs in Paris, is framed in cream card, and decorated in a Strangelord fashion with buttons, gems, charms, fimo beads I got in a surprise swap from Arty Wax Works (thanks Karen!), and of course bones (plastic, don't worry!)

Collage hangs from an antique-gold effect chain. Colours are neutral -gold, silver, creams, greys.

'Personal Hysterie' mixed media collage

205 x 255mm approx. mixed media collage within a distressed wood effect frame.

This collage is based around an image I made back in my college days, as an angst-ridden-post-feminist-teen-twenty-something (or something!).

I bound a doll in a nylon stocking and wire and photographed it, and juxtaposed it with the telephone number from a London call-girl's card.

I like the eerie, spectral appearance I was left with when the image was photocopied, and stumbling upon it once again I had to use it in a collage somehow.

I'm fascinated with archaic ideas of the hysteric woman. I think most of us would have been given electric shock therapy if we'd lived back then!

The collage is embelished with salvaged bits and pieces in muted shades -buttons, a buckle -in-keeping with the bondage theme, a butterfly to contrast with our captive heroine, a studded bow from an old pair of shoes, diamante and pearls, a heart charm (because we women are such vessels of emotion!?!), a padlock and a lucky dice.

This collage is corded to be wall hung.

'Dead Lovely' mixed media painted and collaged canvas

Even when I'm painting I just can't keep myself from collaging!

195 x 195mm box canvas painted (acrylics) with dogtooth check and an arrangement of hearts which are often motifs in my art.

A die-cut skull, painted in candy colours and embellished with glitter adds interest. I like the idea of taking something that is usually thought of a sinister and juxtaposing it with all things cute.

Collaged elements include beads, buttons, a lizard and an aeroplane cracker prizes, a far-out 'Love' patch and a dinky hanger donated to me by Lisa from noodleBubble (visit her shop immediately!)

This piece is corded and ready to be hung, but as it's a chunky box canvas can also be displayed free-standing.

202 x 142mm collage on board backed with a very 70s style floral print paper in purples, greens and orange.

'Tangerine Trees' doodled on orange cardboard (developed from an idea I came up with once in a very boring meeting...) are adorned with a psychedelic array of beads, buttons, gems and beasts (well, butterflies and a wise owl), flowers and more surreal elements such as a waving disembodied hand and a floating smiley -all from my forever swelling collection of treasure/junk, and giving the effect of a far-out enchanted forest.

This fun, kitsch and quirky collage is corded to be wall hung.

'White Riot' mixed media collage

170 x 150mm collage/assemblage on sparkling silver glitter board.

Entitled 'White Riot', I started off with the idea of combining white and silver objects, but then got far too excited about all the other colours that match nicely, so collage includes blue, pink and lilac objects also.

Included are a glow-in-the dark skeleton charm, gun and lorry gumball charms, a tiny silver key, a dummy, a bow tie gem, a miniscule cross charm, a soaring bird cracker prize, the man in the moon, beads, buttons and various other lovely found and collected bits 'n' pieces.

Everything is carefully arranged like the precious treasures they are, and stuck down securely, in a very 'strangelord' fashion!

Collage is mounted to be wall hung.

'The Lunatics Have Taken Over The Asylum' collaged cabinet assemblage

Truly a sight to behold, for the lunatics have taken over the asylum...

This crazed collective of collaged keepsakes started life as more of a bathroom cabinet, than a 'Cabinet of Dr. Caligari'.

I am fascinated by the complexity of the human psyche, and the many ways it can go awry. Often my work gives a nod to that, collaging together seemingly unrelated elements like the strange associations our brains can make.

I would so have been a Surrealist.

After a lick of paint, I pasted the shelves of the cabinet with background images -eyes from my sketchbook, a crossword (love them!) and added trinkets and treasures from my stash -a bow from a long-dead shoe, brooches, a lute-playing cherub, a plastic skull, a wooden mallet, a baby, sea-smoothed glass, shells, stars, chains (which the patients broke free from?!), gems, marbles, beads, buttons and so on.

The door of the cabinet features butterfly/moth/bones chimeras, which have been sort of a trade mark of mine since my uni days.

Inside the door a photocopy from an old magazine declares '50% of people think things are going to get worse...'

Although this assemblage is largely decorative, it can still be functional as a cabinet, and it is corded to be wall hung or can stand freely.

Dimesions: 275mm wide, 395mm high, 150mm deep.

170 x 150mm collage/assemblage on 15mm thick heavy board (a left over piece of laminate flooring I think!)

Background image is a pop-art Lictenstein style close-up of a woman's face, salvaged from a newspaper article. She either looks alarmed, or really over-excited!

I overlaid the image with a curious collection of collaged objects, arranged in a star formation. Pop. Star. Gedditt?!

Objects include gems, beads, buttons, a fairy blowing her own trumpet, a tiny toy jet, a gruesome bug, a spooky baby, a bejewelled keyring, and a neon star.

Colours were picked out to tone in with the background and are mainly reds, greens, black and orange.

Everything is securely fixed in place, to kitsch, quirky effect.

'I Hate To Love You' mixed media collage

Mixed media collage on painted canvas, 355 x 230mm approx.

This is the partner collage to 'I Love To Hate You', and instead of declaring hatred for all things sickly sweet, this piece celebrates, indeed 'loves', the gruesome and the ghoulish!

Stencilled lettering spelling 'love', is spangled with glitter, but in a twist, or a two-fingers-up to the typical, cliched love lettering we are used to seeing in every single homeware store across the country, the word which has almost become a logo or a brand name rather than a genuine sentiment, is surrounded by a creepy collective of insect charms, evil eyes, bones, a gun, a fist, a mad little goblin dude with an axe, buttons, beads and the like.

Much of my work is based on uncommon juxtapositions. This piece is rather a naive nod to that idea, and an excuse for a carnival of the bizarre and beastly!

The collage is corded to be wall hung, and is perfect for people as strange as me, who want something slighly different to adorn their walls, and bemuse visitors.

'I Love to Hate You' mixed media collage

Mixed media collage on painted 355 x 230mm approx. canvas.

I love to play with the idea of juxtaposing opposites. This one isn't so subtle!

Inspired not only by the Erasure camp classic, but also by the fabulous Eighties Matchbox B-line Disaster track 'Love Turns to Hate', I wanted to combine rigid, stencilled, hateful text with cute candy colours and kitsch delights, suggesting that we despise all niceness (which of course isn't strictly true, but is amusing all the same!)

Glittery lettering is swamped with an array of beads, buttons, gems, bows, cracker prizes and charms -an old-fashioned car, flowers, skittles, a feather, a whistle and various dinky creatures, all painstakingly arranged and glued into place.

The combined effect is the sickly sweetness that actually I love :-)

The collage is corded to be wall hung, and is perfect for people as strange as me, who want something slighly different to adorn their walls, and bemuse visitors.

170 x 150mm collage/assemblage on 15mm thick heavy board, pasted with background image of a mummy and baby fish from a child's colouring book (I love that sugar paper texture!)

A collection of objects to tie in with the theme of the piece's name are carefully collaged together -including a tiny toy boat, happy stars, orange fish, and most exciting -frangments of blue and white ceramic I found washed up on Whitby beach, smoothed by the sea.

I like to imagine they sailed on an ancient galleon, for the captain to take his tea!

This fun collage wouldn't look out of place in a child's bedroom, but is equally aimed at us big kids at heart.

Main colours are orange and blue. Complementary. See, I listened in art theory!

'The Crimson Coach Murders' mixed media box collage

200 x 200mm approx. mixed media collage within a decorated wooden box frame.

The theme for this collage is based around the discarded page, torn from a mystery novel which I found blowing down the street one day. It's not a book I've ever read, but doesn't the title make it sound exciting?!

And of course, the colour red had to feature.

The sides of the frame (45mm thick) are backed in delightful, delicate, handmade paper accented with spots of blood red (not pictured). Inside and around the frame are carefully arranged trinkets -a plastic fawn silhouette, a cunning black moustache disguise, a temperature dial for when we turn up the heat, vintage and new buttons, beads, gems, chains, a lucky number 7, a cameo, a key, a top hat, and, perhaps, the murder weapon! A cut section from the text that inspired me forms part of the background.

This evocative piece would add a quirky touch to the wall space of super-sleuths everywhere.

'Bootle Street Circus' mixed media collage

Collage/assemblage 113 x 123mm approx, on red snakeskin print background, set within a tarnished silver frame.

This cute, minature collage has a circussy/carnival theme in tribute to the button badge which I scavenged on a mad night out in Manchester (I think!). The badge is included, along with pretty buttons, flower and shell beads, a lion, a carousel, and the number three (it's the magic number!), all lovingly arranged and stuck in place.

The silver frame is mounted to be wall hung but can also be free standing (was originally a photo frame before I got my hands on it).

'House' mixed media collage/assemblage

Collage/assemblage within a salvaged house shaped thimble display case.

Sections of vintage thimble rack are painted white and filled with various trinkets -broken jewellery, toy parts, a pretty piece of glass, beads, a dice, and a fish shaped soy sauce bottle!

Items were all selected because they were interesting in their own right, and seem to work together, telling their own story -giving quite a surreal effect.

Item is 215 x 175mm approx and is fitted to be wall hung, but can also be free standing.
