Folksy : Northfield Primitives

Inspired by vintage and antique toys, I design and make animals and dolls which I stitch on a beautiful 1920's Singer treadle sewing machine. I love to use old Meccano wheels, vintage ribbons and buttons, traditional German glass eyes and rusty bells in my work, which adds to the vintage charm of each animal.

standing elephant

Made to order especially for you - please allow 7 days before your elephant is ready to post.

A little standing elephant, made from Osnaburg and stitched on an old Singer treadle sewing machine.

The little elephant stands quite happily and is about 10cm tall and 15cm long. He has been dyed with strong coffee, baked in the oven and then gently sanded to give him a wonderfully vintage look.

He wears a little rusty bell on a piece of dyed twine.

He's very cute (don't tell the others but he's my favourite) and is a Northfield Primitives original - sure to bring a smile to the face.

Little elephant is not intended for children.

old velvet rabbit doorstop (vintage rose velvet)

MADE TO ORDER - please allow up to 7 days for me to make a little rabbit especially for you x

This little rabbit dreams of becoming a REAL rabbit - she heard the story of The Velveteen Rabbit when she was just a wee kitten (she informs me that that is the correct name for a baby rabbit and not a bunny as I once mistakenly called her). So she hops from one window sill to the other, dreaming of leaping through field of fresh grass, and wonders whether she will keep her vintage rose colour (which she is rather proud of) when her wishes finally come true...

This old velvety rabbit is a doorstop, suitable for INTERNAL DOORS.

She made from a soft rose velvet and a pretty floral linen fabric, and stuffed with toy stuffing and lots of rice to give her weight. Old velvet rabbit stands about 28cm tall from nose to tail (35cm including her ears). She has vintage glass German eyes, a little nose stitched with linen thread, and a little needle-felted bob tail made from Wensleydale fleece. She has wonderfully expressive ears. I have finished her simply, with a tiny ribbon and rusty bell.

Little rabbit was stitched on an old Singer treadle sewing machine using one of my own patterns. She is intended as a decorative item and is not suitable for children.

Made using a Back Porch Pickins pattern, Lilith is a little Bat doll.

Lilith has vintage mother of pearl buttons on her button-jointed arms, and wired, poseable wings. She measures 34cm from her toes to the tip of her little ears, and is made from hand-painted and dyed Osnaburg. She sits about 22cm and needs to lean against something for support.

Lilith is a collectors doll and is not intended for children.

Archie a little velvet Spaniel

MADE TO ORDER - please allow up to 7 days for me to make a little Spaniel especially for you.

Today we made a new friend at the park, Scruffy and I. His name was Archie. A high spirited little chap with seemingly boundless energy, dashing this way and that, leaping and tumbling, doing the most comical rolls down the little hills in an effort to retrieve a ball almost as big as him.

Scruffy wasn't at all sure of such youthful exuberance so early in the morning, and eyed Archie suspiciously for several minutes before deciding that the newcomer was really no threat to his prowess as the Park's ball retrieving champion.

'Don't those get in your way?', asked Scruffy, alluding to Archie's rather magnificent golden ears flapping in the wind, as they chased a particularly muddy ball through the puddles.

'Oh no, long ears give you wings!', barked Archie happily as he bounded over the brook..and for a brief moment he really did look like he was flying....

Archie is made from a wonderful vintage shaggy golden velvet. He stands 12cm tall and measures almost 16cm from nose to tail. He has traditional German glass eyes and wears a little dyed twine collar with a rusty bell attached. He has wonderfully floppy ears, and is such a cutie.

He is one of my own designs and was stitched on an old Singer treadle sewing machine.

Please note that he is intended for decoration only, and is not intended for children.

Scruffy dog was curled contentedly on my lap, snug and warm in front of the fire in the Nursery, contemplating the walk we had enjoyed earlier in the day (involving lots of sticks and much barking at ducks).
I gently stroked his ears.
I love you, he said, looking up and gazing deep into my eyes.
I love you too Scruffy dog, I whispered as he gently drifted into sleep......

A little mohair dog, sitting just over 12cm tall, hand-coloured and gently dyed to give him a lovely vintage look. He has traditional glass eyes, a little stitched nose and mouth and a wears a little string collar made of dyed twine, with a tiny rusty bell attached.

Barnaby a little vintage style fox terrier with spotty neckerchief

Bob's cousin Barnaby has come for tea today. Barnaby is frightfully chic in his blue spotted neckerchief. 'I do like to be on trend', he comments as he lazily examines Bob's half-chewed bone.
'Am I on trend too?', asks Bob eagerly, his party hat bobbing up and down as he eagerly awaits my answer.
'You are timeless Bob', I answer with a smile.
'Oh good', he replies as he bounces off to offer Barnaby the least chewed rubber ball he can find in his basket...

Barnaby is made from Osnaburg and stands about 12cm tall and measures 15cm from his nose to his tail. He has been dyed with coffee, baked in the oven and gently sanded, to give him a lovely vintage look. He is finished simply with a little white spotty neckerchief.

Little giraffe is so quiet you wouldn't know she was there. She tells me that she feels rather awkward most of the time, which is unfortunate as she is by far the tallest animal in the Nursery (25cm on her little red wheels) and is difficult not to notice....

Little giraffe is one of my new designs. She is made from Osnaburg which has been hand-coloured and dyed to give her a wonderful vintage look. She stands 25cm tall on her vintage red Meccano wheels. Little giraffe wears a tiny rusty bell on some twine around her neck, and has a larger rusty bell on the handle of her pull-along cord.

little vintage style pull-along BLACK Spaniel on old Meccano wheels

Ready to ship!

'Don't those get in your way?', asked Scruffy, alluding to Archie's rather magnificent ears flapping in the wind, as they chased a particularly muddy ball through the puddles.

'Oh no, long ears give you wings!', barked Archie happily as he bounded over the brook..and for a brief moment he really did look like he was flying....

Archie is made from wonderfully soft black Schulte viscose. He stands about 14cm tall on his vintage Meccano wheels and measures almost 16cm from nose to tail. He has traditional German glass eyes and wears a little dyed twine collar with a rusty bell attached. He has wonderfully floppy ears, and is such a cutie.

He is one of my own designs and was stitched on an old Singer treadle sewing machine.

old velvet rabbit doorstop (vintage rose velvet)
