This little beauty is made in sterling silver. The inner ring is about 11mm wide. The silver has been textured, using my rolling mill, with a gorgeous floral design and then oxidized. Each ring is individual and so the floral pattern will vary slightly on each one made. The ring’s flared edges are gently shaped like petals. There are two, lightly hammered, polished outer rings made from 1.2mm wire. There’s a really nice contrast between the inner and outer rings. This sterling silver pendant is made in two layers. Using my rolling mill, I have embossed the first layer with a paisley pattern, before using my piercing saw to cut out a paisley shape. I have then soldered this to a thicker layer of silver and then cut around this adding a lacey edge. I have oxidized the pendant to emphasise the detail before polishing to a shine. As each pendant is handmade, the embossed pattern will vary slightly on each, although all will be equally lovely. The pendant measures approximately 25mm across (1 inch), 15mm deep and 1.2mm thick, taken at the widest points. The band is textured by reticulation, a surface treatment where controlled, repeated heating of the silver results in a rippled, molten effect. Reticulating a sheet of silver takes quite some time as each piece is annealed and pickled at least seven times beforehand. It doesn’t produce exact results and no two pieces ever work out the same. Sometimes the effect is very dramatic, other times, subtle. Either way, you can be sure to have a very individual piece of jewellery. The band is made from 1.2mm thick sterling silver sheet and is 6mm wide. A lovely size to wear, it feels substantial without being too chunky. The little heart measures approximately 6mm at its widest point. The ring has been lightly oxidized and then rubbed back and polished to a shine.
