Folksy : Bodrighy Wood

I am more than happy to do commissioned pieces so if you see something that you like but would rather have a bit different feel free to ask. For those living in the UK I can also make things from your own wood if required. I haven't found many woods that can't be turned yet (Buddleia is one) and so am willing to have a go with any. Postage would obviously be your responsibility.

Items bought by cheque will be dispatched once cheque has cleared.

Please note that postal orders and cheques need to be made out to Pete Moncrieff-Jury not to Bodrighy wood. Thank you

Beaders caddy

This is a bead caddy with room for 5 tubes of beads. There are 5 shallow bowls to put the beads that you are using at the time and a spindle for your thread or wire spools. The top is a pin cushion to keep your threading needles safe and secure which is stuffed with crushed walnut shell to sharpen the needles when inserted. There is also a little tube for your scissors.

It is made from American Black Walnut, an offcut donated by a designer kitchen maker, and is polished with carnuba wax. It is 7 1/2" diameter at the base and 12" tall to the top of the pincushion. Design is sloosely based on the spool caddys that were popular in the Victorian times.

Please note these are made to order and may take up to two weeks as there are a number of different parts to each unit. The wood may not be the same as the one here but will be in a dark wood unless otherwise stipulated.

Stiletto

A stiletto is used to enlarge holes in the ground fabric of the embroidery to enable the sewing needle to pass through the fabric easier. It is also used to enlarge holes in the ground fabric so that the ends of embroidery threads can be easily taken to the back of the work i.e. plunging the ends of metal threads to the back of the fabric in Gold work embroidery.

The stiletto can also be used as a laying tool.

Niddy noddy

These are made in three pieces and shipped in in pieces for self assembly. This is purely because they are ridiculous postage if assembled prior to posting and very vulnerable.

Stress eggs

The ultimate stocking filler
These eggs are made from all sorts of wood and come in a variety of sizes so the ones displayed here may not be exactly what you get. If you want to see the one I will send please ask as I try and accommodate as much as possible.

These are either decorative, or they can be used as stress relievers as they are so fantastically smooth and tactile it is hard not to pick them up and just roll them and smooth them in your hands. I run them off with whatever wood I have available and this dictates both the size and the look of them. None will be bigger than about 3"! long however.

Yew vase

This yew vase stands 7" tall and is 6" wide at it's maximum diameter. The rim is 1 1/2" wide and as can be seen decorated and textured. It is a lovely piece that is both useful and stands alone as an artistic piece. Suitable for a contemporary or more traditional decor it is a one off piece that no-one but the owner will have.

Dragonfly sculpture

This piece depicts a dragonfly settling on a root, polished and buffed, the polished bark looking like water flowing, to investigate a spilt pitcher made of beech. The dragonfly is made of fimo clay by a very clever sculptor friend, the rest is turned and carved. A lovely unique OOAK piece of art.
