It was going to be a gift but I am now going to keep it myself as i love it! [Small jewellery box]. A beautiful little item, I already have one so this is a gift for a friend who is a spinner. Thank you so much. [wpi gauge]. Beautiful button, fab packaging and really quick service, very pleased thank you Lisa. [Giant button] Awesome! Amazing! This is the second one of these wooden memory sticks that I have purchased from Tree Gems. Tree Gems are so helpful and are always willing to accommodate any special requirements. Definitely recommend Tree Gems to anyone. [Gothic style memory stick]

Post-it note memory stick 2GB USB

Here's a novelty memory stick; handmade from a lovely piece of sycamore and designed to accept a standard pad of 3 x 1 Post-Its. That's really useful.

It houses a 2GB memory and measures about 4 (100mm) long.

I'm told 2 GB will accept anything between 500 and 2000 photographs depending on quality settings. Or 500 MP3s at 128 kB/s.

Wedding Anniversaries?

It’s worth remembering that wood is the traditional gift for a fifth wedding anniversary, as well as being the modern gift for a sixth wedding anniversary! Why not give one of these?

Superstitious?
…then with a wooden memory stick, you can always ‘Touch Wood’!

My postage rate allows for recorded delivery.

Oak Jewellery Box - Arts and Crafts Style

This is my idea of an Arts and Crafts Style box. It's made from some lovely pieces of reclaimed quarter-sawn oak which clearly display the distinctive markings of the medullary rays. The exposed tenon joints (typical of Arts and Crafts design) are wedged with bog oak.The overall external dimensions are about 10 1/2 x 5 1/2 x 4

The box is fitted with one partitioned tray of just over 1 depth, made from sycamore. Both the tray and the base of the box are lined with a red velvetty material.

Wedding Anniversaries?

It’s worth remembering that wood is the traditional gift for a fifth wedding anniversary, as well as being the modern gift for a sixth wedding anniversary! Why not give this lovely box? I have another jewellery box for sale here.

A most unusual wooden ring

I am enchanted by the possibilities that wood can offer to the world of jewellery. Compared with making furniture and other large items, I have found that working with wood at this scale opens the eyes to a different world: the micro-beauty of wood.

My rings, I feel, bring out this beauty to perfection.

They are stronger than I dared to hope, but do need a little more care than those of precious metals. For instance, immersion in water is not recommended.

No two rings can ever be exactly alike, but if you need a ring in a different size to those shown here, I can normally craft one very similar.

I do favour a finish that allows the ‘treeness’ of the material to show through rather than a glossy varnish and most of what I have on sale feature an oil and hard wax finish.

Wedding Anniversaries

It’s worth remembering that wood is the traditional gift for a fifth wedding anniversary, as well as being the modern gift for a sixth wedding anniversary!

Superstitious?

…then with a wooden ring on your finger, you can always ‘Touch Wood’!

This ring is a United Kingdom size N / USA size 6 1/2. It's about 5/16" or 7mm wide, and is made from Boxwood that sandwiches a multitude of different timbers. The ring also features real silver inserts. I must be honest, that the 'sparkle' on the picture is a result of digital faffing. I'll send this ring to you in a special handmade wooden ringbox.

This Motley ring comprises seventeen little pieces of wood accented with three real silver highlights. It's 7mm wide. I must be honest in that the sparkle on the photographs is a result of digital ‘faffing’. This one is a size K 1/2 (UK) or 5 3/8 (USA), but I can make another to your size. I'll send your ring in a specially crafted wooden box.

A diamond-set pendant with 4GB memory stick

What a special gift this pendant will make! I’m so delighted with it that I can’t wait to list it.

It will be sold with a hallmarked sterling silver 2mm chain. As with all my pieces, the wood is shaped, carefully hand-sanded, sealed and then finished with a hard wax. !

I set out to make this a special piece and so I have set inside, a massive 4GB memory insert. The front features a brilliant Wesselton natural diamond of just over 2mm diameter in a silver setting.

The wood is tambootie / tamboti and sycamore, and the colour and grain are beautiful. The oak box in the photographs is listed separately on Folksy.

A special gift for a special lady..

Special Oak Keepsake Box

The lid of this keepsake box or chest is made from an amazing piece of burr oak that has lived in my workshop for quite some time. It was too beautiful to cut down in size, so this box is a big one! The lid retains its natural bark edging. Internally, the box measures 12" x 8 3/4" x 7" and it will easily accept A4 documents. The body of the box is made of nicely figured oak jointed with graduated through dovetails. I made the hinge from a piece of quarter-sawn oak which clearly displays its distinctive markings.

It is fitted with one partitioned tray of about 1 1/2" depth, made from figured sycamore. Both the tray and the base of the box are lined with deep purple velvet.

Wouldn't it make a fine needlework box!

Wedding Anniversaries?

It’s worth remembering that wood is the traditional gift for a fifth wedding anniversary, as well as being the modern gift for a sixth wedding anniversary! Why not give this lovely box? I have another jewellery box for sale here.

If you have any questions about the box or need additional photographs, please message me. The contents shown in my photographs are not included.

The box weighs about 5kg and, of course, the contribution towards (Recorded Delivery) postage rate has to reflect that.

Rustic natural edged buttons about 35mm. Set of five

A beautiful set of five buttons crafted from a length of well seasoned branchwood. They'd be perfect for all sorts of craft projects and they display a beautiful range of colours.

They have four sensibly sized holes and I retained the natural edges on them. I finished them with Danish oil and a hard wax to preserve and protect.

These buttons are approximately circular at about 1 3/8"

I spent a lot of time finishing these buttons to a lovely silky smooth surface.

Yarn lovers' sett gauge or wpi gauge

This is a sett gauge or a ‘Wraps per Inch' gauge.

Fibre artists, spinners, yarn lovers, knitters and weavers will all know what it’s for.

For those who don’t know, it’s a little tool to help measure what gauge your yarn will knit to. The number of times your chosen yarn wraps around the gauge tells you Wraps per Inch (wpi) of the yarn.

Armed with that information, you'll be able to choose which pattern to use for yarn already in your stash.

The gauge has a one inch measure as well as a half inch one for lightweight yarns (double the count of course, before consulting the chart) and it comes with a fabric lanyard and it's in a velvety pouch. I’ll also include with the gauge, a wpi chart for different weights of yarn

The stunning yarn shown in the photograph is not included! The gauges pictured are about 6" (150mm) long, are made from different varieties of wood. If you have a preference, please tell me (the photographs are numbered) when you order.

My postage rate includes for first class recorded delivery

Giant wooden button 70mm / 80mm

These buttons measure around 3 1/4" or 80mm and I have a number for sale in a range of different types of wood. (Number 12 is about 70mm) Being handmade, sizes may vary by a few millimetres.
I've seen them used as a feature on a scarf or bag and they'd be just great as a feature on a woollen hat. See the November 14th blog entry here

for a superb knitted hat pattern by Woolly Wormhead!
Please message me if you have a preference for a particular button (images are numbered).
Also... just recently I have been asked for sets of giant buttons to make wall decorations in the buyers' sewing rooms!

I can make any size in any of a great variety of types of wood. And I'll be repeating some of the already sold styles so please ask.

Celtic cross pendant in yew wood

This pendant is in the style of the Celtic cross. I just did some research on the symbolism of this type of cross, and found a whole host of explanations for the circle cutting through the cross.

Whatever, it's a beautiful symbol, and when coupled with the beauty of yew wood, makes a most attractive pendant. The yew is especially appropriate since it is surrounded by myth and is associated with the Tree of Life concept that can be traced through Celtic and Nordic tradition back to the Neolithic Age.

The pendant measures 2 3/4" x 2", has a lovely smooth feel, and hangs on an adjustable leather thong.
Wedding Anniversaries?

It’s worth remembering that wood is the traditional gift for a fifth wedding anniversary, as well as being the modern gift for a sixth wedding anniversary!

Superstitious?

…then with a wooden pendant at your neck, you can always ‘Touch Wood’!

Cotton bobbin wooden USB memory stick 4GB

I had made one or two of these some time ago, but they had to be bigger than the original bobbin due to the size of the inserts then available. Things have moved on, and I'm now able to buy miniature USB inserts. These bobbins are therefore the same size as the old wooden cotton reelsI'm really delighted how these have turned out. What a great gift for a dressmaker, milliner, tailor or textile artist!

As this memory stick is slightly chunkier than the standard plasticky version, I'll provide a short USB extension lead with it.

I'm told 4 GB will accept anything between 1000 and 4000 photographs depending on quality settings. Or 1000 MP3s at 128 kB/s. Why not give one as a gift with a 'family album already loaded!
