Upcycled vintage postage stamp badge - Machin - LUCKY DIP!

The stamps shown on the badges above were designed by Arnold Machin in the 1960s, and his design has become something of an icon. I decided to make this series of badges to commemorate Machin's definitive postage stamp design & preserve some fragments of postal history.

Over the years the Machin definitive stamp has been issued in a rainbow of colours, and YOU WILL RECEIVE A SINGLE PIN-BACK BADGE, randomly selected by me, which may or may not be one of the exact badges shown above.

Each pin-back badge measures approx. 1” diameter, and has been upcycled from a genuine, salvaged piece of British ephemera (stamped envelopes that have travelled through the postal system). Each badge will also feature a fragment of postmark, which may be 'killer bars', date circle or a random message stamp from the post office. I have mounted each badge on a small presentation card which provides an extremely brief note on the history of the Machin definitive on the reverse.

Please see my other listings to choose from a specific colour 'family'. Feel free to send a message if you would like a custom set of badges in particular colour/s or quantity - I have lots of badges made up & ready to go, and many more just waiting to be made, each one entirely unique!

Going Postal Gallery - a meta mail art project zine

The Going Postal mail art project began in January 2010 and ended August 31st, 2010. The project asked for ATCs to be submitted based on any theme relating to postage, postal and/or mail art.

The Going Postal Gallery zine showcases the contributions & notes of 36 artists & crafters from around the world, and ranges from postboxes to mail carriers, maps to ephemera, postage stamps to artistamps and lots more inbetween, using a wide range of techniques.

If, like me, you love all things postal, you will be fascinated & inspired by this collection of artistic interpretations!

In keeping with the meta mail art theme, there is a space on the reverse of this zine to be stamped and addressed to the recipient. Unless otherwise requested, this zine will be posted semi-naked (in transparent, biodegradable packaging), separately to any other items purchased at the same time.

The Going Postal Gallery is an A6 zine, staple-bound, 36 pages printed on FSC paper (from sustainable sources) with vegetable inks.

Society for the Preservation of Borrowers - complete Membership Packet

Based on the Borrowers books by Mary Norton, each Friend of the Borrowers Membership Packet includes:

- Issue 1 of 'Borrowed Time'

- NEW ADDITION a credit card-sized mini magnifying sheet to aid reading of 'Borrowed Time'!

- An integral membership card (to detach from packaging) with space to add date joined

- An upcycled badge, made from a vintage copy of the original Borrowers book, and hand-stamped with the SPoB logo, 'Borrowers Recycle!' - each badge unique & will vary slightly from those shown

Borrowed Time is an 8-page micro-zine (approx. 5.25 x 7.45 cm) printed on recycled newsprint paper. The print really is tiny - use the magnifier provided to avoid eye strain. The penny shown in pic 2 is NOT included in, but shown to demonstrate scale of print.

In this issue of Borrowed Time:

- '...like bread's for butter' - an editorial about contemporary Borrower life & the growing dangers of illegal Borrower farms
- a Borrowed chronology - listing of Borrowers in literature
- Do you believe in Borrowers? - a feature article covering the Borrowers' Lilliputian ancestry, Borrowers in literature, advice on living in harmony with Borrowers, plus the likelihood of Borrower colonisation in your own home
- the SPoB mission statement

Please note, reports on Borrower farming & other instances of Borrower-cruelty may be distressing to younger readers. SPoB as an entity is aimed at adult followers of the cause.

A Bit of Earth - a Secret Garden mini-zine with free seeds!

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett has always been one of my favourite books, and was the source of inspiration for this mini-zine which I wrote in honour of Earth Day 2010 (April 22nd).

It includes quotations from the original novel, a spot the difference 'contest' (do you know how different the American and European robin are?), gardening tips from two of The Secret Garden's main characters (Mary Lennox & Dickon Sowerby), and a review of The Secret Garden, plus its 'sequels'. All packed into one concise little mini-zine!

A Bit of Earth is printed on beautiful handmade lokta paper, embedded with hemp seeds, and includes a separate packet of poppy seeds for you to plant and grow. The pages are decorated with hand-doodled floral corners. Your copy of A Bit of Earth will be individually packaged in a glassine packet, and is sealed with a TangleCrafts label (see 3rd photo above).

N.B. 1: Lokta paper is made from the lokta shrub by harvesting its bark. It is not cut down, but instead regrows, making it a wonderfully sustainable, renewable, natural source of paper.
