A Bit of Earth - a Secret Garden mini-zine with free seeds!

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett has always been one of my favourite books, and was the source of inspiration for this mini-zine which I wrote in honour of Earth Day 2010 (April 22nd).

It includes quotations from the original novel, a spot the difference 'contest' (do you know how different the American and European robin are?), gardening tips from two of The Secret Garden's main characters (Mary Lennox & Dickon Sowerby), and a review of The Secret Garden, plus its 'sequels'. All packed into one concise little mini-zine!

A Bit of Earth is printed on beautiful handmade lokta paper, embedded with hemp seeds, and includes a separate packet of poppy seeds for you to plant and grow. The pages are decorated with hand-doodled floral corners. Your copy of A Bit of Earth will be individually packaged in a glassine packet, and is sealed with a TangleCrafts label (see 3rd photo above).

N.B. 1: Lokta paper is made from the lokta shrub by harvesting its bark. It is not cut down, but instead regrows, making it a wonderfully sustainable, renewable, natural source of paper.

Society for the Preservation of Borrowers - member card, micro zine & badge

Each Friend of the Borrowers Membership Packet (in mini manilla envelope) includes:

- Issue 1 of 'Borrowed Time'

- A hand-stamped, dated & numbered membership card cut from waste packaging

- An upcycled badge, made from a vintage copy of the original Borrowers book, and hand-stamped with the SPoB logo, 'Borrowers Recycle!'

Borrowed Time is an 8-page micro-zine (approx. 5.25 x 7.45 cm) printed on recycled newsprint paper. The print really is tiny - a magnifier might be advisable to avoid eye strain. The penny shown in pic 2 is NOT included in, but shown to demonstrate scale of print.

In this issue of Borrowed Time:

- '...like bread's for butter' - an editorial about contemporary Borrower life & the growing dangers of illegal Borrower farms
- a Borrowed chronology - listing of Borrowers in literature
- Do you believe in Borrowers? - a feature article covering the Borrowers' Lilliputian ancestry, Borrowers in literature, advice on living in harmony with Borrowers, plus the likelihood of Borrower colonisation in your own home
- the SPoB mission statement

Please note, reports on Borrower farming & other instances of Borrower-cruelty may be distressing to younger readers. SPoB as an entity is aimed at adult followers of the cause.

Upcycled vintage postage stamp badge - Machin - GREENS

The stamps shown on the badges above were designed by Arnold Machin in the 1960s, and his design has become something of an icon. I decided to make this series of badges to commemorate Machin's definitive postage stamp design & preserve some fragments of postal history.

Over the years the Machin definitive stamp has been issued in a rainbow of colours, and YOU WILL RECEIVE A SINGLE PIN-BACK BADGE, randomly selected by me, made from a Machin stamp in a shade of AQUA, BLUE, PURPLE, MAUVE or LAVENDER. You may or may not receive one of the exact badges shown above, and it may be a different shade of blue or purple than shown (pic shows only a random sampling to hand at time of creating this listing).

Each pin-back badge measures approx. 1” diameter, and has been upcycled from a genuine, salvaged piece of British ephemera (stamped envelopes that have travelled through the postal system). Each badge will also feature a fragment of postmark, which may be 'killer bars', date circle or a random message stamp from the post office. I have mounted each badge on a small presentation card which provides an extremely brief note on the history of the Machin definitive on the reverse.

Please see my other listings to choose from a specific colour 'family'. Feel free to convo me if you would like a custom set of badges in particular colour/s or quantity - I have lots of badges made up & ready to go, and many more just waiting to be made, each one entirely unique!

ZINE BOMB - a double-sided mini zine for guerilla craftivists!

First there was seed bombing, then came yarnbombing. Now, with the advent of zinebombing, it is time to unleash a whole new kind of guerilla art/craft/writing on an unsuspecting public!

The Zine Bomb mini zine provides a basic introduction to writing your own mini-zine (re-fold the zine inside out for a mini-zine folding guide tutorial, with diagrams), plus tips on guerilla distribution methods. Craftivism is the latest crafting buzzword, with high profile names such as Betsy Greer and Keri Smith leading the way. Now it's YOUR turn to get your ideas out into the world!

The Zine Bomb was one of my very first mini-zines, written back in in 2009. It has previously only been available to members of the TangleClub. The Zine Bomb is printed on 100gsm recycled paper and measures approx. 7.5 x 10.5cm. Constructed using the standard fold-and-cut method, the mini-zine is 8 pages long BUT is printed on both sides so can be opened out & re-folded to reveal a 2nd 8-page mini-zine on the reverse. Twice the fun!

Upcycled vintage postage stamp badge - Machin - LUCKY DIP!

The stamps shown on the badges above were designed by Arnold Machin in the 1960s, and his design has become something of an icon. I decided to make this series of badges to commemorate Machin's definitive postage stamp design & preserve some fragments of postal history.

Over the years the Machin definitive stamp has been issued in a rainbow of colours, and YOU WILL RECEIVE A SINGLE PIN-BACK BADGE, randomly selected by me, which may or may not be one of the exact badges shown above.

Feel free to send a message if you would like a custom set of badges in particular colour/s or quantity - I have lots of badges made up & ready to go, and many more just waiting to be made, each one entirely unique!

MIXED GIFT SET - 2 x Truth-Be-Told pocket mirrors (Snow White fairy tale)

Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?

If you can't decide which Truth-Be-Told Pocket Mirror to choose, save money & buy both! An ideal gift for the dual-natured, offering different opinions for different days, moods, friends or enemies!

The Truth Be Told Mirror in 'Bold as Brass' offers an unflinching - some might say harsh - reflection of reality. The text on the reverse of the mirror reads:

You are not as pretty as you think you are. You have bags under your eyes, & more wrinkles daily. Don't torture me so, please - look away!

The Truth-Be-Told Mirror in 'White Liar', meanwhile, offers a more subtly tempered reflection (which you might prefer to hear):

You are beautiful. You are clearly and by far the fairest in the land. How can you bear to tear yourself away from your own reflection?

Mirrors measure 58mm diameter (approx. 2.25), made from top quality metal components and mirror glass. Each mirror is individually packaged in a biodegradable cello bag, with a Truth-Be-Told header printed on recycled cardstock. The design on the non-mirror side is adapted from a faux advertisement devised by TangleCrafts for the Enchanted Times, journal, and incorporates a vintage/classic illustration by Arthur Rackham (c. 1909).

They come to you in a crisp glassine packet, sealed with a Fast-As-You-Can CoCo branded label.

For just £1 you will receive 1 sheet of ER stamps (2 x F-A-Y-C standard Gingerbread Man issue & 4 x Goblin Market design) PLUS 1 sheet of 3 Fast-As-You-Can CoCo postmark labels and 3 Enchanted Express Mail Services inspection labels.

Mini-sheets of stamps/labels have a scratch-proof vinyl finish and self-adhesive peel-off backing. Each sticker measures 22 x 22mm and has rounded corners. Stamp & label designs by TangleCrafts incorporate classic fairy tale illustrations by Arthur Rackham, and Robert Gaston Herbert.

Enchanted Times #2.5 - Hansel & Gretel + Gingerbread Man fairy tale mini-zine

Due to the different passage of time between worlds, the Enchanted Times presents Mini issue #2.5, vol. ii – an edition which has never before been available in the Real World.

This issue features an extended editorial resulting from the discovery that Hansel & Gretel March are jointly Managing Directors of the astoundingly successful Fast-As-You-Can Corporation, and addresses such issues as:

- the question of whether or not the Gingerbread Man's reputation as a potential psychopathic killer has any founding in reality
- the Fast-As-You-Can Courier Company's practice of rehabilitating escaped Gingerbread Men
- the Marches' 'monopoly' of the Enchanted Realms' commercial sector

In addition, this issue includes a voucher for the reader to claim a FREE (+ postage) sachet of Fast-As-You-Can CoCo Cocoa! A homicidal gingerbread reading list is also provided.

Whatever conclusions you draw after reading this issue, please remember to always approach any baked goods with extreme caution, for your own safety.

The Enchanted Times Mini is printed on 100gsm recycled paper, has 8 pages including full colour cover & measures approx. 7.5 x 10.5cm.

The Enchanted Times Mini provides updates on and between full-size issues of the Enchanted Times journal (see separate listings). Additional news items are also available online at http://www.enchantedtimes.wordpress.com
