PrinceDesignUK Thu, 15 Dec 2011 17:57:12 +0000 http://folksy.com/items/2782430 http://folksy.com/items/2782430 Flutter Porcelain and silver wall art butterfly with antique embroidery texture I call this bowl my rain forest leaf bowl, because the glaze inside it reminds me of warm summer rain making pools in bowl shaped leaves, and of hot days swimming in tropical lakes during the time I spent in Brazil. This bowl was glazed with my own special combination of ingredients, including some recycled glass from empty bottles and jars that blended with the glaze to give a stunning crystalline watery effect. The glass forms a perfectly smooth surface to the bottom of the bowl, but beneath the surface it cracks and fragments. These cracks catch the light and sparkle like jewels. It would make the perfect holder for a candle, it's great as a soap dish, or you could use it to keep rings and jewelry safe. I keep mine on my bathroom windowsill so that the crackles under the surface catch the sunlight and glisten. It's delicate shape was given strength by my use of very strong, textured, creamy white clay, which I fired to stoneware temperature. I didn't glaze the outside, and added a little subtle fabric texture because I wanted the natural beauty of the clay to shine through and create contrast. I added deep ruby-red glaze to the top surface, and the underside is unglazed with a little fabric texture. There are many uses for the little bird. Keep it by your bed to keep earrings safe, use it as a little soap dish or put a little candle in it at night. The colour and texture inside are so pretty you might decide to keep it empty for decoration. It measures approx 3.5 x 4 inches and is 1.25 inches tall. (9 x 10 x 3cm) Although I have made a couple of these, the one you will receive is unique, and is the one pictured in the main image. Other colours and pairs of birds are available in my shop. Keep it by the sink or bed and it will look after your rings and little things. Place a little tea light candle in it to light things up at night, or use it in your bathroom as a soap dish. Each little bird is unique. Its features were individually stamped and its shape was formed by hand, by me. It is made from strong textured white clay and fired to stoneware temperature, so it is strong, despite its delicate form. Its pretty features are emphasized by the gorgeous glossy blue glaze which contrasts with the pale clay. It measures approx 10 x 9 x height 2.5cm (4 x 3.5 x height 1 inches) Please note, I made a few of these, so the one you receive may vary very slightly, but will be extremely similar to the one pictured in the main image. I always loved the idea, but never really liked the end product, so I decided to take matters into my own hands... The texture of flock wallpaper was imprinted into the surface of the clay, and the duck silhouette was pared down for a contemporary feel. Finally they were coated in bright lime green. The ducks are are suitable for use inside your home. They have fixings on the back, so they can be easily hung from nails in your wall.
