Purple Druzy Agate Pendant Necklace on Russian Spiral Necklace

I fell in love with the gorgeous smoothness of this purple druzy agate pendant. I decided to use black and purple seed beads to create a Russian spiral necklace for it, matching the purple beads exactly to the shade of purple in the agate. The photographs make it look a little bluer than it actually is.

The necklace is 20" (515mm) long, excluding the pendant which is 45mm in diameter.

The necklaces fastens with a hand-stitched toggle clasp.

Golden Sunshine Beadwork Earrings

This is the third pair of earrings I have made in this style - the previous two were snapped up at a craft fair just before Christmas.

These are designed to add a touch of golden sunshine to brighten up these dull dark days of winter!

They are much lighter to wear than they look, being beaded in seed beads and small Czech crystals using beading thread. They are 3" (85mm) long and are on gold-plated earwires.

Deco Black and Crystal Bracelet

The design of this bracelet is my own. I wanted to do something that would make the most of these lovely silvery bugle beads (the long beads) and decided to use shiny black seed beads and Czech crystals in two sizes with them, using ladder and brick stitch. I've used a third, larger, Czech glass crystal for the clasp.

The bracelet is 7.25" (190mm) long.

'Flapper' Long Lilac Lariat in St. Petersburg Stitch

This is the third lariat I've made using the very decorative double St. Petersburg stitch. The previous two were snapped up at recent craft fairs.

This time I've used a lilac colourway, with nearly 300 tiny Czech crystal beads in amethyst with three shades of lilac Japanese seed beads in the beadwork.

The fringing features matt lilac Czech pressed glass beads. If you love the 20's and all things Charleston, then this is for you - the perfect flapper necklace!

Lariats can be worn any number of ways, wrapped like a scarf around the neck with the ends dangling, doubled, wrapped around and looped through, or loosely knotted. You'll have fun with this!

The lariat is 43.5" (111mm) long, excluding the fringing.

Sunflower beadwork and lampwork necklace

This will cheer you up no end! This is a looong (32"/820mm) handstitched necklace worked in a freeform spiral weave stitch with a cornucopia of leaves, flowers, butterflies, ladybirds spiralling along a stem towards a handmade (and especially commissioned by me) sunflower lampwork bead made by Ciel Creations with fringed dangles.

The necklace also features some beadwork sunflowers in Japanese seed beads and Czech glass beads which I made separately and then worked into the beadwork of the necklace.

I lost count of the number of hours of work that went into this necklace - probably around 40 hours all in all.

HOW I MADE IT

The beadwork sunflowers and clasp were made using a variation of brick stitch around a central Czech glass bead.
The body of the necklace is spiral weave in a freeform design using a variety of different sized seed beads and Czech pressed glass beads.
The fringing falls from a skirt of net stitch.

The clasp can be undone by folding the petals down and pulling through the loop. All have been sewn through several times so it is robust enough to withstand much wear.

Polly Garter Bracelet for St. David's Day

Rather than go for anything obvious for the St Davids Day challenge I thought of one of my favourite books. I've loved Dylan Thomas' Under Milk Wood since I was too young to really understand the naughtiness of it! Polly Garter, who sings of all her loves, especially Little Willie Wee (who drowned) as she nurses her many babies, is one of the naughtiest characters (or maybe that's Rosy Cottage?). This is her bracelet.

It is designed to look like a pretty garter, in delica seed beads with candy pink bow motifs and two blue hearts (signifying poor Little Willie Wee), with a pearly ruffle at each edge. It fastens with a pink heart which goes through a loop of pinky-red delica beeds.

The bracelet is around 2cm wide and 190mm long (7.5").

Union Jack Diamond Jubilee Brooch

I made some beaded Union Jack (correctly - Union Flag) brooches last year and they sold out pretty quickly. So this year I decided to make them in red white and silver to mark this very special year, with a little diamond shape in the centre of the St. George's cross.

The brooches are on 5cm long kilt pins and the brooch itself measures 34mm x 30mm.

This is what all the best dressed Jubilee celebrants will be wearing this year!

HOW I MADE IT

I worked out the pattern on graph paper and, using peyote stitch, stitched each bead one at a time, making sure to pick up the right colour each time. Each brooch takes 2-3 hours to make.

Oh how we ladies love pink! Pink is one my best sellers at craft fairs and I'm listing this new necklace and earrings set here before I take it to my next one to give Folksy buyers a look-in!

This necklace combines opaque pink Czech melon beads along with transparent pink Czech pyramid beads and silvery-grey hematite like facetted firepolish beads.

The necklace measures a useful 20 (515mm) and the earrings have a 1 drop, on silver plated studs with butterfly backs. The necklace has a pretty silver plated toggle clasp.

Deco Cream Czech Glass Necklace

You don't come across that many cream coloured necklaces so I made this one. It has a lovely retro look to it, but unlike many retro necklaces, these beads are not plastic but glass, made in the Czech Republic.

The rectangle beads have a geometric pattern on them, while the long oblongs and rounds are silky smooth.

This necklace can be worn with so many other colours - it looks fabulous with blue or green.

At 22 (565mm) it is long enough to wear over a jumper or it sits just inside the V of a deep V-neck t-shirt.

It fastens with a gold plated toggle clasp.

Kerry Green Russian Spiral Weave Green and Gold Necklace

A lovely necklace in the green of the Emerald Isle with gold lined green crystal beads woven in. The stitch is Russian Spiral which uses two sizes of bead to give an interesting spiral.
The necklace is 17.5" (450mm) long and fastens with a golden green large and medium size bead stitched into the necklace and passing through a loop of smaller beads. It is easy to do up and very secure and ideal for those who cannot wear metal.
HOW I MADE IT
I used the Russian Spiral pattern, stitching each bead in one at a time. This necklace took me a couple of evenings to complete.

Purple and Silver Russian Spiral Necklace

This necklace is worked in Russian Spiral stitch. The beauty of hand stitched necklaces are that they are so light. This one uses purple seed beads with large irregular silver seed beads which gives the necklace an interesting texture.
The clasp is made using the smaller seed beads, peyote stitched into a toggle shape, making the necklace easy to do up, yet secure, and ideal for those who do not like wearing metal.
The necklace is 16" long (415mm) designed to sit at the base of the neck to wear with round necked tops, so it sits just above the neckline.
Because it is so light - you will hardly know you are wearing it!
HOW I MADE IT
I used Russian Spiral stitch, which calls for two sizes of beads, stitched together to form a spiral. The spiral effect is not so much in evidence here due to the irregular sizing of the silver beads. It took me a good couple of evenings to complete this necklace.

Monet Blue Beadwork Long Necklace

A set of beautiful handmade lampwork beads from Claire-Louise Patrick of Ciel Creations was the inspiration for this luscious long necklace.

The stitch is spiral weave, worked with Japanese seed beads and drops, along with a few Czech firepolish beads, in complementary colours.

The whole reminds me of an impressionist painting - Monet's waterlilies come to mind.

The focal bead in the centre has a tiny bit of fringing, but not too much as I wanted the bead itself to be the centre of attraction here, but just enough to give it balance.

The necklace does up with a larger Czech firepolish bead with a beaded loop, but it is long enough (27/695mm) to just slip over your head.

The effect is stunning and you will be sure that you will be the envy of your friends whenever you wear it!

This is the third necklace I have made using Ciel Creation lampwork beads - the previous two were snapped up almost immediately at the craft fairs I took them to. They take ages to make so there won't be another one along just yet...

Bohemian Bride - White Czech Glass Necklace Set

Czech glass beads are also known as bohemian glass and these beautiful opalescent beads seem very bridal to me!

But of course you don't have to be a bride to buy this lovely necklace, bracelet and earrings set - it looks great on anyone and you can wear it equally comfortably to the opera or the supermarket.

The necklace is 20 (515mm) long and the bracelet fits a 7-7.5 wrist. All the metal parts are silver plate.

The finish on the Czech glass beads I've used in this necklace is called "Picasso". It has a lovely mottled appearance which means the beads glimmer as they catch the light. I've used dagger shaped beads with facetted fire-polish beads, each with teeny tiny seed beads between them to give the necklace a nice drape.

You could wear this to work or for an evening out as it is a very dress up or down necklace.

Aqua Blue Glass Crystal Necklace

I adore Czech fire-polished beads (nicer, in my opinion than Swarovski!) and here I've put various sizes of them together, with the central focal beads measuring 12mm and 10mm and added in a few smooth oval Czech pressed glass beads in a sort of teal/aqua shade, matching the a set of three darker aqua blue beads on either side.

Long White Czech Glass Bead Necklace

The beads here are simply stunning smooth ovals (each 20mm long) in opaque white glass teamed with round white glass beads in a lantern shape with traces of gold in the grooves. Each bead has been strung with a tiny opaque white glass firepolished bead. All of the beads are made in the Czech Republic by the very talented glass bead makers there.

Antique Pink Tulip Glass Bead Necklace

These gorgeous tulip shaped beads (measuring 12mm long) are Czech pressed glass beads in a very grown up pink colour, each with traces of gold in the markings. I've teamed them with firepolished beads which also have a hint of gold in them and each bead has been strung with complementary coloured tiny seed beads to give the necklace a nice drape.

There is something antiquey looking about this necklace which owes more than a little to Art Deco in the bead design.

The necklace is 18" (457mm) and fastens with a silver plated filigree push-in clasp to complement the antique feel of the necklace.

Tortoiseshell glass necklace and earrings

Glass from the Czech republic rivals Swarovski in quality and style. It was scarce for a long time as many factories closed, unable to compete with China.

But as demand for better quality rises, the remaining factories in the Jablonex area are meeting the challenge.

There are some of the earlier vintage beads still available and I use a mix of these, sourcing them from all sorts of sellers, a few here, a few there, putting them together with more modern Czech beads.

There are some smoothly facetted beads in this piece known as English cut Picasso. You are will be lucky to have my last remaining beads of these in this necklace - I can't find them again!

This is a striking necklace using tortoiseshell pattern beads in drops and facets. It is 19 (490mm) long and fastens with a gold plated box clasp (as used for pearls). The matching earrings are on gold plated earwires.

Chunky Green Czech Glass Bead Necklace

I've contrasted two types of Czech green glass beads in this necklace - each 20mm long. There are transparent nuggety green beads with smooth flat ovals in a creamy green with a slight mottling in the surface here and there to add interest.

These are also interspersed with pale green smooth bicone beads. A lovely necklace to wear with a white top!

Teal, according to a lecture given by a trained colour consultant I heard recently, is a colour that can be worn by everyone. These teal glass rondelle crystals sparkle as they catch the light. Pearls, of course, can also be worn by everyone! I've put the two together in this pretty necklace and earrings set.

This set is so versatile - you can wear it for both daytime and evening and know you look good whenever you wear it!

The necklace is 21" (533mm) long and the earrings have a 25mm drop. The necklaces fastens with a silver plated toggle clasp and the earring hooks are also silver plated.

There are two sizes of opaque dark cream firepolished beads, 10mm and 6mm and I've teamed them with jade green opaque 6mm firepolished and smooth round green 10mm pressed glass beads - all with opaque cream seed beads between so the necklace drapes well.

The necklace looks nice worn with white, any biscuity-type colour, blue and darker greens.

I wanted to use these sugary pink "dog bone" beads in a necklace and decided to use them with fuchsia pink firepolished beads, pale pink melon beads and tiny round pale pink beads, with three darker pink pressed glass shell beads as features.

The dog bone beads are drilled through the centre and because they are thinner in the middle, snuggle up to each other in a very pleasing fashion!

The necklace is fairly short - 17" (432mm) so would suit someone with a slender neck. It is oh so pretty!

Persian Nights

I was asked to test drive a new pattern for the beaded beads in this necklace and liked them so much I decided to make more. They are made using beautiful Czech firepolish beads stitched together with seed beads. They remind me of the bejewelled turbans worn by the Persian princes of old!

I've strung them on silk, with textured brass bottle shaped beads that I've had for a while, waiting for the right project.

The necklace, which measures 18" (465mm) fastens with a toggle clasp made from a loop in the silk and another brass bead.

The patterns for the beaded beads is available from Ciel Creations.

St. George's Day Dragon Bookmark

A fire breathing dragon rears up against a red St. George cross on this beadwork bookmark in honour of St. George's Day.

The main part of the bookmark is worked in a combination of peyote stitch, netting stitch (suggesting armour) and fringing. The long tail is the part that sits inside the book, worked in a simple two-bead herringbone stitch, with an heraldic cross charm at the end.

The entire bookmark measures 12" (315mm), the tail part measures 7.5" (195mm) so it will fit inside most regular sized books, with just the fringe part sticking out for longer books.

This bookmark is more masculine than most handmade bookmarks, ideal for the book loving man in your life!

Topaz Russian Spiral Necklace

A rope of Russian spiral stitch using dark topaz seed beads and larger matt rainbow topaz seed beads is interspersed with tiny topaz Czech firepolish beads to add sparkle.
The centre of the necklace has several beaded beads threaded onto a narrower spiral using tiny bronze seed beads. I made the beaded beads using Czech firepolish beads in a variety of stitches.
The clasp is a handmade toggle using beads found in the necklace and a simple loop of seed beads.
The necklace is 21" (535mm) long. It will go with anything and feels really light and comfortable to wear!

Red and Silver Necklace

A perfect shot of red on a silver necklace!

This is a handmade lampwork glass bead from those clever glass bead makers in the Czech republic. It is layers of glass with silver built up and shaped into a diamond shaped drop of deepest red.

I've placed it on a simple sterling silver chain to give the bead maximum impact! The clasp is a sterling silver lobster clasp.

The necklace is 16" long, designed so the pendant sits at the base of the neck.

Your necklace will come in a lovely beribboned gift box.
