Black Heart Opal Pendant

Description

Inside a solid glass pendant, I've encased a black Gilson Opal, and draped it with silk chiffon ribbon, to make a pendant necklace with a real luxury feel!

On the back and around the edges I've put a deep rich transparent red, which really catches the light. Inside there is a band of green and blue clouds, as well as a black Gilson Opal, which like all opals looks amazing as it moves in the light!

Gilson Opals are made by taking the same minerals that make natural opals, and forming them under extreme pressures and heat for up to 18 months! They are purer than natural formed opals, and have no water so can be encased inside borosilicate glass with out breaking. Borosilicate glass (pyrex is a well known trade name of this type of glass) is very tough, and the colours often shift and change subtly depending on the light.

The top half if clear glass, and domed to act as a lens, and the heart shaped opal 'floats' in this top half of the pendant, and lets the black opal catch more of the light - as well as attention!

I have formed a glass loop to hang the pendant from, and have added a lovely soft ribbon, with solid 925 clasp, and extender chain. The ribbon are pure silk chiffon, one black with red silk stitching, the other red. Both are slightly variegated as they have been hand made and hand dyed, and so are much softer than normally available ribbons.

From top of the loop to the tip the pendant is just under 58mm (about 2 1/4inch), around 22mm across, and just under 18mm at the fattest depth. I have flattened the back of the pendant so it hangs neatly.

The glass is fully annealed in a microprocessor controlled kiln, and the pendant is supplied gift boxed.

Every pendant I make is always slightly different, so are always a true one of a kind piece of artisan flamework made entirely by hand by lampwork in my studio in the heart of the English countryside
