A big brown cuddly owl with a rainbow array of felt feathers!

This sleepy guy is my biggest plush creation to date, measuring approximately 14.5 inches high and 14 inches wide (37.5cm by 36cm). He is made with a warm beige body, large white eyes and feathers of medium blue, sky blue, orange, mustard yellow, peach, hot pink, lime green and reddy brown.

He has pointy beige ears and two little brown feet.

Each feather has been individually cut and sewn into place for a layered texture effect.

He is large enough to be a bolt of colour and cuteness on any couch, bed or shelf, as well as being a big buddy!

Since 2009, I have been making and selling miniature cuddly owls by hand. People always loved them, but their first comment on seeing them was always: "You should make them bigger!"

I always replied that without a sewing machine, an owl any bigger would take me months to complete.

Recently, I took the plunge and bought myself a sewing machine. It was incredibly frustrating and I endured months of getting my fabric mangled or my thread knotted, but eventually these accidents became less frequent and sewn I found I had managed to teach myself to sew by machine.

This was the first proper design I undertook by machine, and so this is a real labour of love for me and remains my favourite thing I have ever made. I originally just wanted to make a plain owl of one colour, but I became more and more excited about the new options a sewing machine gave me and planned the ambitious feathering. I spent hours rearranging the colours of the feathers to get the look perfect!
