This handsome dog is said to have been bred by Karl August, the Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach. His court was in the region of Weimar, thus the dog's name came about.
They truly were a noble breed, bred solely for the use of nobility. And as they were so highly prized, instead of being kenneled as other hunting dogs the Weimaraner was allowed to live in the family home. This is one of the reasons why today this breed really need the company of people to be happy.
