'Oystercatchers in flight'
Hand-finished single block woodblock print, hand-carved, hand-pressed.

This print was created by carving into a woodblock. The block is inked, and then hand-pressed individually onto the paper; the print is then hand-finished by block-printing the beaks in red.

Print size: 6" x 6"
Paper size: 9.5" x 12.5"

Ink: Caligo Safe-wash inks
Paper: Hahnemuhle japanese paper, 80g, acid-free, archival quality.

Each work is numbered and signed by the artist. This is an open edition.

All prints are unmounted and unframed, and will be packaged with a protective sleeve and cardboard or foamboard support in a sturdy large envelope.

Oystercatchers are birds mainly seen on the shore, their black and white feathers contrasting with their red legs and beaks. In North-East Scotland they are often seen inland and even on the grass verges of city thoroughfares. In flight, their piping call and pronounced markings are very distinctive. Called gille-bride in Gaelic, legend has it that they are the servants of Brigid, the Celtic goddess of poetry, smithing, medicine, and arts and crafts.
