This cat basket is hand-knitted to my own design using undyed, 100% British wool. The wool is slightly spun and semi-felted to give it a firm structure whilst retaining softness. It is a completely natural fibre which has a hint of that fleecy, woolly scent. Which is why cats LOVE it!

The basket measures 33cm / 13 inches in diameter, and 11cm / 4.5 inches high. It is spacious enough for one cat. It would make a fine bed for a small dog too. You might want to pop a cushion in it to serve as a liner if you want to catch the build-up of fur. But cats seem to love snuggling down on the wool itself. Fur is easy to remove with a brush or a wet rubber glove.

Care: The basket can be washed gently in your machine, on a short spin. Re-shape when wet, and allow to dry slowly in a warm place.

I have been experimenting with extreme knitting since I came across some giant wool at a knitting fair. I was inspired by its many possibilities and I noticed that as soon as I put my work down, a cat would appear and start nesting on it. When I made a small basket, one of my cats instantly squeezed himself into it. I realised that sooner or later I would have to make a full sized cat basket. I asked my uncle to make me lots of giant knitting needles and after much trial and error I honed my design to the one you see here.
