I first came across the idea of designing dressing gowns when I was pregnant and found myself in hospital, unable to find such an item that was light enough to be worn comfortably. I managed to borrow one from a friend who had bought one at an Indian market. After some research I figured the best place to find the craftspeople up to the job was in the village of Sanganer, which is situated just outside Jaipur in Rajasthan. So I somewhat naively flew off to find people who could help me with the manufacture of the clothes. As it turned out, it didn’t take long before I met some excellent textile producers and a champion block wood cutter. So in no time at all I was having designs made up to my own specifications.
