These birds have so many stories and myths surrounding them I couldn't resist doing a black and white print of them. I called this print 'two for joy' as my nod to Valentine's Day, but really my inspiration is from observing them in real life. To me they look as though they are wearing little suits, their markings are so striking and I think they lend themselves perfectly to the characteristics of linocut.
I've always been more of a drawer than a painter, so although I love summer, I prefer my trees leaf-less. Their silhouetted branches set an atmospheric backdrop to these sassy birds!
