Mini Beast Appliqué & Embroidered Quilt
Description
Designed and painstakingly handmade child's quilt featuring mini beasts appliquéd and embroidered in detail.
This beautiful quilt is a wonderful heirloom piece, big enough for a cot or toddler bed and then as a comforter or even a piece of art for their playroom wall for older children.
It features a bumble bee with a furry brown body, a dragonfly with detailed embroidered wings, a snail made from sections of camouflage fabric to simulate texture, a cheeky spotted grashopper, a pink not-so-slimy spotty worm, a fat green caterpillar with embroidered detail, a red spotty ladybird and jolly colourful butterflies.
The framework lattice is made from beautiful quality Amy Butler fabric in a stylish contemporary spot fabric while the backing and edges are made from super soft egyptian cotton in white, to leave the main design to do the 'talking'.
Lined with pure wool batting, this quilt is soft and tactile and will be warm in winter without adding the 'bulk' that comes from polyester linings.
The mini beasts are all designed and hand-cut by me in my little studio in Northampton, UK. Then painstakingly fused onto the cotton before being embellished with free motion embroidery to bring them alive.
The finished quilt measures 115cm x 163cm.
Inspiration
Much of my inspiration comes from the world around me - nature and wildlife. I've been fascinated by insects since I was small and my Grandfather encouraged us to explore the countryside armed with a magnifying glass and a pocket book of insects.
