Silk hand embroidered daisy pendant
Description
This dainty necklace depicts a daisy. It is an original design hand embroidered on silk using fine continuous filament floss silk thread. It is mounted in a silver plated frame and hung on a 16" sterling silver chain. The pendant measures 18.5mm x 18.5mm.
The daisy is probably one of the most common wild flowers and is considered a weed by gardeners. Small daisies are commonly found growing in garden lawns whilst large ox eye daisies can often be seen lining motorways during the summer.
Children can often be seen making daisy chains (for me this was mostly during PE lessons at school) and folklore suggests that the ends of the chains should always be joined to represent the sun, the earth and the circle of life. It was also believed that dressing a child in a daisy child would protect them from being stolen by the fairies.
In homeopathy the daisy is used for sprains, bruises, boils and eczema. The white petals and young leaves can also be added to salads.
Inspiration
My children love to pick daisies for me, my dining room table always has small bottles and vases filled with ox eye daisies and small garden ones. It always seems a shame to see them being cut by the lawn mower, but they grow back within a day or two.
From childhood we wear daisies as jewellery, why not as adults?
