How to Sew the Secret Belgian (Belgium) Binding, e-Tutorial, PDF

Description

This clearly-written, straightforward tutorial gives the dimensions, templates and sewing pattern for you to make a book similar to the one in the picture.
The book is bound using the 'Secret Belgian Binding', the discovery of which is attributed to Hedi Kyle. There are two main methods, the first in which the covers are made first and the book bound in, the second in which a book block is made and then attached to the covers which are sewn around it.
I use the first method with my own method of sewing in the pages which results in a very firm book.
The book has 6 sections of 4 folded sheets (folios), making 24 folded sheets, 48 leaves, 96 pages (sides). It measures 11.5 x 10.5 x 2.5 cm OR 4.5 x 4 x .75 INCHES (approx).
If you already make books it will save you the hassle of having to work out the design. Obviously once you have made one, you can ring the changes and make you own variations with different sizes and proportions.
You will need the following materials:
book board, book cloth or paper, paper for the pages, glue, and waxed cord.
You will need the following tools:
a large-eyed needle or bodkin, a sharp craft knife, metal ruler and bradawl or hole punch.
Making this book requires some skill in crafting, cutting, folding, and sewing .
The instructions include useful tips on grain and full-size printable templates for the cover and page holes, and page stitching layout.
The file will be in PDF format and may be printed for personal use.
