The symbol of the moon-gazing hare is almost universal. It refers to fertility and dates back to ancient times. The hare is in fact always associated with lunar deities. The moon-gazing hare is thought to be important to early Britons. However, It can also be found in other cultures, for example, Chinese moon-gazing hares were believed to be gazing up at what they saw as their ancient ancestor in the moon.
This carving is fashioned from a section of Strawberry Tree (Arbutus unedo) branch finished with locally produced beeswax.
Individually produced in North Yorkshire by me, I make each and every carving unique as I work with the shape of the wood, and the natural flaws in the wood alter the colour and grain making each piece different.
A Palm carving is shaped to fit in the palm, and small enough to place under a pillow, discreet enough to be carried in a pocket or purse. Ideal for times of stress, bringing comfort and relaxation with the warmth of the wood.
The animal shape can assist in the act of ‘mindfulness’ and refocus as your fingers and eyes caress the contours of the carving.
Size: 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm x 3cm
Why not commission a Palm Carving of your choice? Other size commissions considered.
