Bespoke Handmade Doll 'GAFUR'
Description
Gafur is an original handmade doll and is part of a collection of dolls called 'The Ragamuffins'.
The doll starts as a foil and wire armature and is then hand sculpted using polymer clay, I do not use molds. The joints are wired so he sits casually in his chair. The doll is painted with acrylics, his face is water colours and pencil also he is been given a distressed look. The hair is mohair and his clothes are a wool jumper and linen trouser. The shoes are leather and so is his cloth. Gafur sits on an oak plinth in a toy chair and this makes him 25cm tall.
The dolls I make are delicate and are therefore not suitable for young children as toys.
Inspiration
Gafur is part of a collection of dolls called 'The Ragamuffins' which is inspired by street or gypsy children.
'Gafur never stops talking whilst he shoe shines at Bombay's train station. Later he will join his friends to sleep under the platform'.
