I designed these lino cuts as a gift for my niece, seventeen and still believes in fairies. I took inspiration from the illustrations of Arthur Rackham, Cicely Mary Barker’s wonderful Flower Fairies, and my own fascination with butterflies, to create three very different little personalities. The Painted Lady butterfly, suggested to me a voluptuous siren of a butterfly, brimming with self confidence, the Swallowtail butterfly fairy is relaxed in the knowledge of her obvious beauty, while the Small Tortoiseshell fairy, (my personal favourite) is the shy one, unassuming and yet possibly the most beautiful of all.

The lino cuts are hand printed on to some beautiful recycled paper, it is hand made from bark and block printed in gold, giving a vintage textile feel to the print.
