Green smocked bubble hemmed dress
Description
This dress is made from a lining of 100% silk ivory sandwashed satin, with a shell of slightly transparent silk/cotton mix (80% cotton 20% silk)
The dress features a bubble hem and a hand smocked panel on the front, which as well as being decorative gives the garment a relaxed fit. The garment closes with a concealed zipper at centre back. All seams are French (enclosed)seams except for centre back which is cut on the selvedge so it won't ravel. Armholes and neck are finished with satin bias tape, the hem is finished with cotton bias tape to add some stiffness.
The dress is to fit a 36 bust.
Dry clean only. It can be ironed on setting number 2, but due to it's shape it is easier to hang in a steamy room and let the creases drop out.
Inspiration
I love trying out new (or, if you prefer old) techniques, I got a vintage book of needlecraft from the 50s at a junk shop and had to try our the traditional English smocking. At the same time I wanted to play with layers and a bubble hem, which gave me a bit of a challenge about which bits to sew both layers as one and which to keep the layers seperate.
