Newspaper yarn art - Evolution

Description

Newspaper yarn handspun from newspaper by myself - a unique and interesting gift for your or a loved one's wall!

Part of the Good News from Bad collection:

The newspapers are full of bad news. By spinning these stories into yarn and using words taken out of their “bad news” context, bad news is spun into good – art for your walls!

Each piece is unique and signed by the artist.
6 inches square (internal measurement of frame)

The piece pictured is called Evolution - The winding of the newspaper yarn is reminiscent of the helical structure of DNA. Other ideas inspiring this piece include the explosion of many species from a common ancestor, the common building blocks of life, the common basic body plan of so many life forms, the gradual introduction of small changes in DNA causing larger changes, and the evolution of consciousness. The four circles represent the 4 basic building blocks of DNA.

Only 1 of this piece available Commissions are welcome....if you would like to use newspaper from a special day e.g. a wedding or birth - a further charge for custom newspaper will be added.

Inspiration

Striving to turn bad news into good news is what all of us do all around the world on a daily basis. Newspapers often tend to report very complex stories in black and white and indeed when we think of a newspaper black and white are the colours that spring to mind but tear it up and spin it into yarn and colours and complexity can be found.

I am inspired by those that pick apart news stories and try to disentangle the facts from opinion - there are too many to mention but Ben Goldacre and NHS Choices "Behind the Headlines" do a good job for health and medicine stories.
