Beautiful handmade coptic-bound book with unique cover illustrated with a hand-screenprint of Ella Johnston's original drawing.
Great as a photo album, sketch book or notebook, this individually crafted A5 book, has a hard cover and contains around 30 leaves of high quality 120gsm paper.
Coptic-bound books are made using a hand-stitched binding method that dates back to the fourth century A.D.
The book's spine is exposed, leaving the ornate chain-stitch binding visible. You can also open the book to a full 360-degrees or lay it completely flat without risk of damage to the spine.
Inspiration
Coptic bound books have such a rich history and it's nice to bring this ancient art up to date. I adore making these books as you can get lost into the rhythm of making, especially when the internal paper is so tactile and such good quality. I've only made one of these books in this particular colour scheme with the flora and fauna design - although I do love this blue and black combo - so it's also nice to sell something unique.
