Orange Polymer Clay Earrings with Carnelian Beads and Copper
Description
Polymer clay round drop earrings. The disc beads are made from polymer clay in shades of amber, orange and turquoise. The discs are topped by gorgeous translucent carnelian beads and small turquoise dyed howlite beads. Howlite is a stone that is naturally white and is often dyed to use as a substitute for turquoise which is much more expensive.
The beads are linked with copper wire and hang approx 4cms/1.5inches from copper ear wires.

Inspiration
I have made these disc beads using a technique called 'mokume gane'. This involves layering sheets of polymer clay - in this case 2 shades of aqua/turquoise and 2 shades of orange/brown. Then a texture is impressed into the clay and gradually the raised texture is shaved away using a sharp blade. The colours underneath then reveal the pattern from the texture. No two sheets of polymer clay made this way will be quite the same resulting in unique pieces. These discs show mainly the orange/amber colours used.
